The dress code will also apply to caddies where caddies are permitted.
Mandatory Team Participation
Manitoba invests heavily in its player development program, and has made a commitment to participate interprovincially
and internationally in a number of team events. As a result, we believe we must field the best possible teams for these events.
In order to ensure all teams are comprised of the best available players, the following policy has been adopted.
- A player who qualifies for a Golf Manitoba team is expected to compete for that team.
- A player may opt out of all team participation in a given year if he/she does so prior to the start of the team selection process.
- A player who qualifies for more than one team in a particular year must fulfill their obligations to each team.
- A player may request an exemption from playing on a team, provided a written request is made to the Player Development Committee three weeks
prior to the start of the applicable team competition.
- Exemptions will only be granted if, in the sole opinion of the committee, there are serious extenuating circumstances.
- Failure to abide by this policy will result in a suspension from all Golf Manitoba development programs and team competitions through to
the end of the following year’s golf season.
Motorized Transportation for Competitions
As a general policy, competitors and their caddies are allowed to use motorized transportation in Golf Manitoba competitions.
There are exceptions to this policy:
- Competitors or caddies may not use motorized transportation in any Junior event, the Women’s Amateur Championship, the Men’s Amateur Championship (includes Men’s Qualifying round) and the Men’s Mid – Amateur Championship.
- A competitor or caddie with a serious, permanent physical disability may request the use of motorized transportation for themselves at any Golf Manitoba competition by following the approved application procedure. Any competitor requesting the use of a motorized vehicle in an event which does not allow the use, do so in writing to the office no later than the deadline of the event. If motorized transportation is approved for a player or caddie at a competition that would otherwise prohibit the use of motorized transportation, the conditions described in Part A and B below must be followed.
- If it can save time, a Rules Official can, and indeed should, transport a player proceeding under stroke and distance penalty.
Part A:
Use of Motorized Transportation by a Competitor with a Serious, Permanent Disability
When using motorized transportation, the player or caddie must not:
- Permit anyone else to drive the cart (other than moving it a very short distance to facilitate play);
- Permit anyone else to ride in the cart;
- When practical, drive past any player’s ball to gauge distance or gather any other information about the hole.
Part B:
Use of Motorized Transportation by a Caddie with a Serious, Permanent Disability
When using motorized transportation, the caddie must not:
- Permit anyone else to drive the cart (other than moving it a very short distance to facilitate play);
- Permit anyone else, including the competitor, to ride in, lean on, or store anything in the cart besides the competitors golf bag.
- When practical, drive past any player’s ball to gauge distance or gather any other information about the hole.
Part C:
Use of Motorized Transportation
There is a limit of two golf carts per group.
- If a cart is shared by two or more players, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be the equipment of the player whose ball is involved except that, when the cart is being moved by one of the players sharing it, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be that player’s equipment.
- When using motorized transportation, the player must not:
- Permit anyone to drive (other than moving it a very short distance to facilitate play) or ride in the cart other than a player or caddie;
- When practical, drive past any player’s ball to gauge distance or gather any other information about the hole.
A player in breach of the above conditions is subject to penalty as follows:
Match play—At the conclusion of the hole at which the breach is discovered, the state of the match is adjusted by deducting one hole for each hole at which a breach occurred; maximum deduction per round—Two holes.
Stroke play—Two strokes for each hole at which any breach occurred; maximum penalty per round—Four strokes.
Match or stroke play—In the event of a breach between the play of two holes, the penalty applies to the next hole.
Any subsequent breach of this rule may result in disqualification.
Withdrawl Policy
Any player who fails to notify the Tournament Committee of a valid reason for withdrawing prior to commencement of
the event, or who withdraws during play without valid reason, or who fails to appear for a subsequent round of an event, may be
suspended from competing in any Golf Manitoba events for the balance of the current season, as well as for the next
season. Should a competitor be forced to withdraw from an event, he/she must inform either a Starting Official or a
Scoring Official at the earliest possible opportunity. In addition, a 24-hour telephone answering service is available to accept
notification of emergency withdrawals. Call 925-5730.
Refund Policy
Tournament entry fees, less a $20.00 service charge, will be refunded when Golf Manitoba is notified by phone or email prior to the entry
deadline of the tournament. Refunds, less the service charge, will be given only for medical or compassionate reasons for a cancellation
received after the tournament entry deadline. Such cancellations require written confirmation. No refund will be given for any reason once
the tournament begins.
