Canada Summer Games
For the first time, golf will be a participating sport in the Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward
Island in August of 2009.
In order to prepare our top junior players for this event, Golf Manitoba has selected twelve (12) boys and ten (10)
girls as the Canada Games Phase One Training Squad. These young athletes were selected based on their performance
in 2007 & 2008. They will be involved in an extensive training program which will include weekly practices, fitness testing
and evaluation, diet consultation and mental game training. Golf Manitoba is proud to have CPGA Professionals Garth Goodbrandson (Golf Manitoba Director of Player Development) and Derek Ingram (Head Teaching Professional at the Elmhurst
Golf & Country Club and RCGA National Team Assistant Coach) assist the Squads.
The final Training Squad will be selected and trained leading up to to the Games. Of the twelve (12)
boys and ten (10) girls on the Training Squad, three (3) of each will be selected in the summer of 2009 to become Team
Manitoba and compete in the Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island.
